Bad art….

So if you haven’t noticed I like to write and lately I have been on a long rampage about art and culture. I’m very inspired by any original peace of art  whether it be writing, painting, music, media etc. But I’m equally bothered when I see rip-offs of good art or when a good idea gets stolen. Recently I was surfing the web when I ran across a certain web site. The site was promoting this new “christian” video game called “Guitar Praise” which is an absolute rip-off of the game “Rock Band.” As soon as  I saw this -ahem- fine peace of work I had to raise an eyebrow. The premise is simple; take Guitar Hero but instead of putting in songs from hard rock bands that “worship satan” you’ve got a game that is filled with songs from Christian rock bands. I know there are a lot of good Christian bands out there but my first thought was the song pool was going to be quite shallow. But to my surprise there was a crap load of artists on there. My first question was ; “Do these artists know they’re  on this game?” Of course they do, right? I mean why would my christian brothers and sisters steal songs from other artists? My first response was to give them the benefit of the doubt. But I decided to take my investigation further. I scrolled down and looked at the song list, which included artists like; Third day, Dctalk, Hillsong, Skillet, etc. Pretty much any popular Christian artist on K-love is on this game. But then there are Bands like; “The Crucified” which is a punk band from the late 80’s.  I mean does anyone even know them anymore? Doubt it. So I emailed Mark Salomon (former lead singer of The Crucified, and lead singer of Stavesacre) and it turns out he didnt know about the game and hes disgusted about the idea all together. So apparently Brandon Ebel( CEO of Tooth and Nail) is going to sew the asses off this company. It seem that Ive opened a can of worms that needed to be opened.

This is the response I got from Mark;

When I first read this I thought: That sucks.
Given a second to think about it now… I don’t want it to happen.
1. This is a terrible idea
2. The mix will sound ridiculous
3. No one asked
4. They’re stealing.
5. “The Pit.” (the song that is on the game) Seriously?

Can something be done about this?
Mark
